Sardinia 25 & 26 October
Sardinia….back “home” in Italy…..
In Cagliari, on the southern side of the island, we were docked a bit out of town. We decided to get the free shuttle from the port. As soon as we jumped off the bus and headed into the streets and alleyways of the old town, we felt at home. Greeting everyone with “Buongiorno” was so familiar following our extended stay in Italy. The sights of the old buildings, tombs, forts and ancient amphitheatres were exactly what we had become accustomed to.
Our next Sardinian port was Olbia on the northern side of the island. This port city is not really a destination in itself, but is a gateway to the coastal area and tourist destination Costa Smeralda –the most expensive location in Europe where house prices reach up to 300,000 euros (approx. AUD465,000 per square metre)
Whilst we did do a bit of exploring, the highlights of our stay in this port were the sunrise and sunset over the surrounding hills…. and the ferries painted with Looney Tunes characters.
