Cry the Beloved Country
My heart aches as I watch the footage of the violence and looting in South Africa. As I see part of the city where I went to school & university go up in smoke. As I read about people dying. As friends and family tell me about the shortage of food & fuel. Hospitals are running out of oxygen for Covid patients.
There is some light as I hear about how the community is pulling together – to protect each other, to save the country they love. And even more hope as I watch a video of a group of hospital staff starting to sing, bystanders in the carpark joining in, hands raised – “Oh God, how great Thou art”. God is hope, He is love. I pray for my beloved South Africa, for its people, for peace to reign, for God’s resounding love to flow over the land and its people.
