Larapinta Trail Day 16: Bonus hike – Ormiston Pound Walk (8km)
Itinerary
While not part of the Larapinta Trail, the Ormiston Pound loop walk is a must do side-trip for anyone that comes to Central Australia, and a spectacular and relaxing way to finish an incredible journey. It takes us up to the high escarpment overlooking this natural impoundment, before descending into the pound itself. We finish the loop by walking down the gorgeous Ormiston Gorge. After lunch we head back to Alice Springs, where we drop you off at your hotel around 4pm.
An epic journey – a lifetime of memories.

Glenda’s thoughts
Today we had to pack up everything and leave our condo by the river.
Walter & I were too slack to brave the cold water swim to complete the circle. We watched the hard core threesome cross the water before heading back to the carpark.
We were grateful to Jill for taking us along the track to meet the intrepid three as they completed their circumnavigation.
We were rewarded with view of the vast pound. We also got to complete the final stretch of section 9 that we’d missed.
Sad to say good bye…..but very happy to be going to the hotel in Alice for a shower!!!
Even though we didn’t complete the “bonus hike” we managed to notch up over 9km for the day.
