Larapinta Trail Day 8: Section 6b: Rocky Gully – Ellery Creek (15km)
Itinerary
We spend two days completing section 6 of the trail earning a few well deserved easier days as we cross the Alice Valley. Slowly moving away from the Chewings Range, we lose sight of familiar ground and a new landscape appears as we pass through the Heavitree Range, taking our first few footsteps on younger earth. The first night’s (day 7) camp is at Rocky Gully with the second night (day 8) spent at Serpentine Chalet bush camp.
Day 8 15km/6hr walk
Glenda’s thoughts
Nice and cruisy except for having to pack down the camp……..(there was a little surprise climb near the end, taking us over some red boulders at the edge of the cliff. The day was also made a little more interesting as there was a trail running event on. People were tackling some or all of the trail over a period of 2 1/2 days. It was a bit of a shock getting to the Ellery Creek carpark and seeing lots of cars – competitors and supporters. Some of the group enjoyed a swim in Ellery Creek whilst i just soaked my blisters in the icy cold water. Mel’s birthday meant cake – and candles – baked by Jill in the camp oven. Happy to be in tents again for a few nights).
No bonus kms today!
