Florence…still tugs at our heart
Visiting Florence – Tuesday 15 August
Just arrived home having done 29000+ steps through the streets of Florence. This is our fourth day trip to Florence since we’ve been here, once by bus and the other driving along the VERY narrow roads. It’s amazing to think that less then 10km from the city, the roads can be so “country”.
Today is Ferrogasto https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferragosto so everything is closed in the little centres and many places in the less touristy areas of Florence too. In fact, lots of them are shut the rest of the month. Much like our Christmas holidays.
Every time we go to Florence we head to our favourite pastry and coffee shop – for a macchiato and one or two breakfast treats. Fortunately, it was open today so we could still indulge. We’re getting to know our way around now, so after paying for parking stations previously, we found the free Sunday and public holiday parking 10 minute walk from the centre of Florence. We’re becoming experts!
Today we did a full circuit of the city, visiting Oltrarno, San Spirito and beyond – some repeats from last year, a few new adventures. During our stay, we’ve found a few nice little panini shops, some reasonable restaurants. We have only frequented our favourite gelato shop twice, so will need to do so a few more times! http://www.lacarraiagroup.eu/en/index.html
